Registering for the Final exam in the Neptun system:

Administration - Final exams - Register for the relevant semester

Final exam date: 1-2 June 2022

Final exam can be taken either in June or in December.

The final exam consists of two parts:
1. defending  thesis  (presentation  on  thesis,  then  answers  to  questions  and remarks) - thesis defense is sometimes held separately from the final exam!
2. oral exam
Candidates have to defend their thesis and take the oral exam on the same day (sometimes separately). Candidates are informed about the requirements (form and content) of the presentation on thesis by the supervisor.

Important: After a graduand has signed up for the state exam, he/she is considered to be a graduating student, thus dates and deadlines of the study period and exam period for graduating students apply to him/her irrespective of whether he/she is taking non-finalist (14-week) courses or not.

Dress code: Candidates are expected to wear something smart which reflects that this is a special and more formal occasion.

Important dates, deadlines for graduands:

Thesis submission deadline: April  22, 2022

In case a graduand has signed up for the state exam previously but for some reasons cannot come, he/she is supposed to inform the Department and the International Office (Faculty of Agricultural, Food Sciences and Environmental Management) about his/her absence.

The order of the candidates taking the state exam and the members of the committee will be announced previously. Committee chair is called upon and mandated by the dean with the consent of the Faculty Council. He/she is selected from the acknowledged experts of the professional field. The committee consists of – besides the chair – at least two members and the examiner.

The committee assesses the performance in the state exam and awards mark for thesis. The committee  decides  on  thesis  grade  in  closed  sitting  after  thesis defence. In controversial cases the chair takes the decision. After the end of the state exam the results are announced by the committee chair.

Improving failed state exam
State exam has to be retaken if any of its part is a fail. The ensuing state exam period is the soonest that the re-sit is allowed.

Calculating diploma grade

The qualification of the diploma is the simple arithmetic average results of the weighted academic average of all semesters of the given training, the result of the oral complex final exam, and the thesis.

Grade=(A+B+C)/3, where

A: Weighted academic average of all semesters of the given training (Halmozott súlyozott tanulmányi átlag)
B: Grade of the oral complex final exam
C: Grade awarded for defending the thesis

Classification of the qualification:
Outstanding      4,81 – 5,00
Excellent           4,51 – 4,80
Good                 3,51 – 4,50
Satisfactory       2,51 – 3,50
Pass                   2,00 – 2,50

Qualification with Honour

A qualification with Honour is permitted where a student obtained grade 5 in all subjects of the state exam. The average of thesis grade, his/her exam grades during his/her studies is at least 4,00. In addition, he/she is not permitted to have a grade worse than grade 3 during his/her studies. (cannot have a grade 3, 2 or 1)

Diploma

Within 30 days of the successful state exam the diploma is issued and given out by the Faculty at the graduand’s special request (only after the graduation ceremony). Otherwise, the diploma will be awarded to him/her at the graduation ceremony of the Faculty.
The diploma is an official document decorated with the coat of arms of Hungary which verifies the successful completion of studies in the Mechanical Engineering graduate program. The diploma contains the following data: name of HEI (higher education institution); institutional identification number; serial number of diploma; name of diploma holder; date and place of his/her birth; level of qualification; training program; specialization; mode of attendance; place, day, month and year issued. Furthermore, it has to contain the rector’s (or vice-rector’s) original signature and the seal of HEI.

In case a graduand needs to prove the completion of studies before the graduation ceremony, a certificate can be issued at his/her special request from HKSZK (Peter Veres Dormitory, ground floor 16.). This document does not contain any reference to qualification, it merely proves that the candidate has taken a successful state exam. The Faculty keeps a record of the certificates issued.

Library

Graduands must return all books on loan and pay all outstanding charges before the end of their course or before they leave, otherwise they will not be allowed to take the state exam in the given term. Those who fail to return their books will be charged for the cost of replacement. In the case of those graduating the books must be returned, or the cost of replacement paid, and all other outstanding charges paid until the last working day before the state exam.
