Internship – Animal Husbandry Engineering MSc
For data collection of 1st-year Animal husbandry engineering students
You can find ten questions according to the animal sectors and the animal species. Two of the topics have to be worked out. You can choose optionally considering the animal species and the animal sector.
Please hand in the filled report and the practice certificate to the responsible tutor until August 31.
There are 5 extra days provided for students who can not finish the report by the deadline for any reason. After the modified deadline the students will be given opportunity only next year to hand in the documents.
If the responsible tutor does not accept the report, the student has another chance to modify it.
I. CATTLE BREEDING
- Please describe the cattle farm. Please assess the appropriability and the occupancy of the buildings and machines. Please give description of the breeds and hybrids applied.
- Please evaluate the production and breeding parameters of the sector.
- Please issue your opinion on milk production, on the milking process and the hygiene condition of milking and milk treatment.
- Please judge the breeding procedure. Please describe the process of bull selection and the mating plan.
- Please present the Unique Animal Identification System (UAIS) and the Farm Management Information System (FMIS).
- Please illustrate the process and the administration of insemination (mating).
- Please give a description of cattle feeding in different age and usage.
- Please describe the development plan of the sector.
- Please examine in what extent feed portions cover the animals’ needs by age groups and usage.
- In your opinion what kind of changes/improvements are necessary in the field of cattle breeding, housing and work organization?
Regardless of the ownership, the farms involved have to possess a certain amount of animals
(at least 30 cows, or minimum 100 beef for fattening) and also the head of the farm has to have a higher education agricultural degree.
II. SWINE BREEDING
- Please describe the breeds and the breeding techniques applied.
- Please give a description of the swine breeding procedure and describe the main reproductive parameters.
- Please present the Unique Animal Identification System (UAIS) and the Farm Management Information System (FMIS).
- Please issue your opinion on the mating plan, illustrate the procedure and administration of insemination.
- Please evaluate the replacement and rearing technology of breeding animals.
- Please describe the housing technology regarding age, breeding aim and compare it with the up-to-date technologies.
- Please issue your opinion on feeding technology by age.
- Please give a description on the rearing and fattening procedure. Please assess the specific parameters attained by the farm.
- What kind of vaccine regimens are applied on the farm? Is there any immunization program in progress? Please name the common disorders by age groups.
- Please deliver your opinion on the development possibilities on the farm (breeding, housing, work organization).
Regardless of the ownership, the student can choose any farm being a stock breeder company or a corporation producing at least 200 pork. The head of the farm has to be highly educated in the agricultural field.
III. SHEEP BREEDING
- Please describe the breeding aim of the ewes and make a comparison with the international trends.
- Please evaluate the natural indices of sheep breeding.
- Do you consider the feeding rations, the method of rationing and feed allocation appropriate?
- Please analyze the indicators related to costs and profitability.
- Please obtain knowledge about the work organization, shift number, work schedule and the way of taking days off. Please write the number of ewes, young sheep and fattening lambs can be treated by a shepherd.
- Please present the Unique Animal Identification System (UAIS) and the Farm Management Information System (FMIS).
- Please describe the mating process.
- Please name the common disorders occur in the population. Is there any vaccination regimen applied?
- What kind of measures do you consider essential in the sector?
- Please illustrate the possibility of sector development (breeding, housing, work organization).
Regardless of the ownership, the student can choose any farm, but the report can only be accepted if the sector keeps at least 200 ewes and the head is highly educated in the agricultural field.
IV. HORSE BREEDING
- Please present the breeds and types applied.
- What kind of breeding and insemination technics are used in the population?
- Please describe the method of artificial insemination and sperm treatment. Please give a description of the administration liabilities related to sperm treatment. What are the selection aspects of the administration liabilities?
- Please represent the stallions.
- Please describe the reproductive indices of broodmares.
- Please characterize the housing type of broodmares and vintage foals?
- Please present and evaluate the feeding of horses until weaning and by vintage.
- How does the basic training of foals look like?
- What are the conditions of the entry into the breeding stock? How is the qualification performed?
- What kind of training is carried out by the population over 3 years?
- What kind of vaccination regimens are applied? Please name the disorders being overtaken by vaccination.
- Please present the Unique Animal Identification System (UAIS).
Regardless of the ownership, the farms involved have to possess a certain amount of animals (at least 10 broodmares and vintage foals) and also the head of the farm has to have a higher education agricultural degree.
V. RABBIT BREEDING
- Please present the breeds and hybrids applied.
- Please describe and analyze the annual rotation of the population.
- Please make an opinion about the feeding methods and the nutritional value of feeds.
- What sort of housing system is applied in each age group?
- What are the features of the suckling rabbits? Please compare your experiences with the literature.
- Is the farm taking part in any breeding or production integration?
- In your opinion what kind of changes/improvements are necessary for husbandry and feeding?
- Please deliver your opinion on the development possibilities on the farm.
The farm involved has to possess a certain amount of animals (at least 100 breeding females) and the head of the farm has to have a higher education agricultural degree.
VI. POULTRY BREEDING
- Please describe the number of species and genotypes and the natural indices by age and by usage.
- Please characterize the housing system of each species.
- Building sizes and the number of animals in each stall. Ventilation system. Work schedule, number of shifts and workers and the way of taking days of.
- The method of stall preparation for day-old chicks.
- Rearing technology for broilers (chicken, turkey, goose, duck and guinea fowl).
- Hatching technology applied in the farm, types of hatchers.
- What kind of vaccine regimens are applied on the farm?
- What causes, illnesses result in mortality?
- Are there any medicines or additives being dispensed with water or feed?
- In your opinion what sort of measures are necessary for the modernization, competitiveness and development of the sector (breeding, housing technology, work organization).
- Integrators and integrations in the poultry farm.
- Please evaluate the feeding practice
Regardless of the ownership, the farm involved has to own a certain amount of animals (at least 1000 breeding and 5000 meat-producing poultry). The head of the farm has to have a higher education agricultural degree.
VII. AQUACULTURE
- Please present the production frames, the way of processing, the species and the working schedule.
- Please describe the reproductive methods and the main reproductive indices (number of females, hatchability rate, rate of vital spawns, etc).
- Please give a description of the rearing technology of spawns, juveniles and table fish.
- The ways of fertilization in the fish lakes.
- Feeding technology of the different age groups.
- What sort of fish harvesting methods are applied?
- What kind of hygiene measures are taken to prevent illnesses?
- Please illustrate the possibility of sector development (breeding, rearing, work organization).
- Please analyze the indicators related to costs and profitability.
Regardless of the ownership, the student can choose any farm, but the production volume has to be over 100 tonnes/year and the head has to have an agricultural degree.
VIII. APICULTURE
- Please describe the history of apiculture and the main shifts in technology.
- Please illustrate and compare the different hives in details.
- Please evaluate the methods of feeding and watering.
- Please illustrate the process of extraction.
- Please describe the apicultural activities by season.
- Please give a description of migration, work organization, safety and the rights related.
- Ways of improving population size.
- The methods of raising mothers.
- Please describe the animal health issues.
- Production and sale of honey and other products.
- The planning of technology improvement possibilities.
The involved apiary has to be the one working with Langstroth and lying hive and provide an opportunity to study mother raising.
IX. FEED SCIENCE AND ANIMAL NUTRITION
- Please evaluate the feed basis of the farm and make feed balance.
- Please assess the methods of ensiling, estimate and describe the level of losses.
- Roughage (hay and straw) conservation and storage.
- Grain harvest and storage. Please value the work of the drying facility.
- Please estimate the system and process of the private feed-mill.
- Please evaluate the harvest, conservation, storage and usage of by-products and perform a cost analysis.
- Please describe the mixed-feed trade in details.
- Is there any kind of illnesses occur due to feeding? Please describe the occurrence of diseases.
X. GRASS MANAGEMENT
