  • has been awarded the Joseph P. Fontenot Travel scholarship to attend the 2021 ASAS-CSAS-SSASAS Annual Meeting & Trade Show which will hold July 14-17, 2021 in Kentucky, USA.
  • won a Ph.D. position to apply quantitative genetics and genomics analysis to facilitate effective selective breeding for improved gill health in salmon

International Livestock Congress student fellowship

Each year the Internal Stockmen’s Educational Foundation awards fellowship for the International livestock congress to senior-level undergraduate and graduate students. Scholastic achievement, leadership experience, and a professional reference are all part of the stringent qualifying requirements for this fellowship program. Ajasa Afees was among the 16 students chosen from around the world to attend the international meeting which was held virtually on March 2-4 as part of the Travel fellowship program this year. This setting provided each student with the opportunity to interact with world industry leaders and contribute to the solutions that will shape the advancement of the livestock industry into the future. The 2021 congress focused on the pandemic-induced changes in the Beef industry.

Joseph P. Fontenot Travel scholarship

Ajasa Afees has been awarded the Joseph P. Fontenot Travel scholarship to attend the 2021 ASAS-CSAS-SSASAS Annual Meeting & Trade Show which will hold July 14-17, 2021 in Kentucky, USA. The travel award is sponsored by the American Society of Animal Science’s Joseph P. Fontenot Appreciation Club. Since its inception, the Fontenot Appreciation Club has awarded over $35,000 in travel awards. Importance, originality, and clarity of the abstract submitted for the meeting as well as professional reference are part of the selection criteria for this award.

PhD position 

A Ph.D. position to apply quantitative genetics and genomics analysis to facilitate effective selective breeding for improved gill health in salmon. The position is a part of the newly established Marie Curie – Innovative Training Network project (ITN) EATFISH which aims to educate young scientists who will be capable of envisioning and creating transformational change to support sustainable and profitable European aquaculture through an interdisciplinary action.
